Arjan Breukhoven (Rotterdam, 18 May 1962) is a versatile Dutch musician, known as an organist, pianist, conductor and composer. He is known for his unique style that combines classical elements with contemporary influences, and for his virtuoso improvisations that integrate different musical styles.

Education and musical development

Breukhoven began his musical training with Jan Brandwijk. He later studied organ and church music at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, where he was taught by Wim van Beek and Bert Matter. He also studied piano with Albert Brussee and took courses in singing, improvisation and choral conducting. During his time at the conservatory, he was also taught by French organist and pedagogue Gaston Litaize.

International career

As an international concert organist and pianist, Breukhoven gives numerous concerts every year in the Netherlands and abroad, including in Germany, Austria, Belgium, the United States, Russia and Australia. In 2026, his eighth concert tour to Australia is planned, with performances in Perth, Albany and Sydney, among others, as well as several performances in Germany and the USA.

Conductor and composer

Breukhoven is conductor of three men's choirs in the Netherlands and of the ‘Australian Christian Men's Choir’ in Perth, Australia. As a composer, he has written many works for choir, organ and other instruments. He is also founder and owner of ‘Vivre Uitvaartmuziek’, through which he provides live music at funerals.

Awards

For his contributions to music, Breukhoven received several awards. In 2014, he was awarded the silver medal (“Médaille d'Argent”) in Paris by the Société Académique d'Éducation et d'Encouragement. In 2020, he was appointed Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau for his inspiring musical activities and ambassadorship.

Discography and media

Breukhoven has collaborated on more than 150 CD and DVD productions, ranging from organ improvisations to choral works. He can regularly be seen and heard in programmes by the Evangelische Omroep, such as "Nederland Zingt".
